Let’s start off right!
Father God, we just want to say thank you! Thank you for revelation, inspiration and dedication. We ask that you bless the eyes that come upon these words, give them a heart to receive, a mind to understand and the intentions to do something about it. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. Amen.
“The Benefits of Waiting.”
Habakkuk 2:3 says, For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.
Well! Just from that one scripture there are 3 facts: (1) The promise is for a set time. (Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.) Your time is not God’s time; (2) When the time comes it will happen. Just like he said it would, he may throw in some extra perks just for the wait; (3) Tho it’s taking forever, WAIT! It’s coming. It won’t be any longer than it was meant to be. Just enough time to get you 100% ready so you don’t mess it up when it gets here.
Juanita Bynum has a song called “I Don’t Mind Waiting”. Let me share some of the lyrics.
You, know
Sometimes in life
Situations are going to occur
Where you may look to the left or the right
And you can’t find any answers and you can’t find anybody to help you
But I’m reminded of the Word that says they that wait upon the Lord
He shall renew their strength
They shall mount up on wings as eagles
They shall run and not be weary
They shall walk and not faint
Come on
You’ve got to learn how to wait
I don’t mind waiting, on You Lord
I don’t mind waiting (I don’t mind)
I don’t mind waiting (I’m gonna wait on)
I don’t mind waiting, on You Lord
I can stop writing right there. That said it all. Except it’s not always that easy. However, for those that make the choice, let’s talk about the benefits of waiting.
Aren’t you tired of walking around the same mountain? Every time you decide to do it your way. You add more years to the walk. Then you blink and you can’t get that time back. Wouldn’t you rather use that time for the “wait” because the outcome is a guarantee?
What do I do while I wait? You get ready. So you’re ready when the promise shows up. I heard someone say, if you want the Mercedes, clean out the garage so it’s ready for the delivery. You want a husband? If you can’t cook, take this time to take cooking lessons. At this point watch youtube, go through trial and error and ask someone whose truthful to be your guinea pig.
Are you holding on to your past? Are you fearful of being hurt?
Can you heal your heart first before jumping into a new relationship and breaking someone else’s heart or mishandling unintentionally who actually was ready.
The benefits of waiting, obtaining the fruits of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.
Love: being able to love someone for who they are and not just for who you want them to be.
Joy: being able to have a joy that this world didn’t give and this world can’t take away.
Peace: knowing thru thick and thin everything is going to be alright.
Patience: knowing that no matter how long it takes you will get there.
Kindness: being able to share with the world the knowledge that God has given you.
Goodness: telling God’s mercies each and every day.
Faithfulness: knowing that when God gives you something. He alone is well able to keep it.
Gentleness: being able to express yourself in the spirit that God attended.
Self control: Being in a place to not say what’s on your mind but think about it first.
Isaiah 40:31 But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Waiting on God helps us to focus on the purpose and direction for our life according to God’s will. It’s important to take time to be still before God, falling deeply into Him, so we confidently know God’s will as we live out our daily lives.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Lean not to thine own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge him and He will direct your paths.
Seek God fervently. So you can hear his voice. It’s hard to hear him when you have other voices in your head. I have a friend who taught me “tune out the noise”. The chatter is just that “noise” tune it out. Everyone talking is not worth listening to.
Waiting on God, in true surrender, doesn’t come natural to us. We want what we want and we want it NOW! In my post, about “Good things come to those who wait” I mentioned, the waiting room, a place where time seemingly stands still. It is a place where life seems like it’s been put on hold, but unbeknownst to us, God is yet working behind the scenes.
Waiting on God renews our mind, physical, spiritual and emotional well being. Romans 12:2 tells us to renew our minds daily so that we may know God’s will.
Waiting on God creates humility. It helps smooth out our rough edges that need to be dealt with. We don’t start out willing to wait. Our human response to waiting is often anger or doubt. However, God is gracious and merciful, understanding of our tendencies. As we wait in the Lord, we have the opportunity to grow into a closer reflection of Christ. Putting aside the stumbling blocks in our lives that hold us back.
Everyday, I want to take time to sit before the Lord and let Him fill me with His power and strength. When I fail to take that time, I go in my own strength. And I know how going in my own strength usually ends up. Not good! We must see the importance of developing the spiritual discipline of waiting on the Lord.
Psalms 27:14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord!
In His Name,
